Safe Sitter is a medically accurate babysitting preparation program designed for students age 11 and older. The competency-based, interactive curriculum was written by a pediatrician and teaches safe and nurturing child care techniques. Safe Sitter, Inc. is the only national nonprofit organization devoted exclusively to preparing adolescents to be safe, nurturing babysitters. Class hours: Students are empowered - they learn rescue skills, basic first aid, nurturing and safe child care, and personal safety.

Scholarships and gift certificates are available. Pre-Payment is required. Class sizes are limited. Students are asked to bring their own lunch. Drinks can be purchased for $.50. Classes are held at Safe Sitter has attracted the attention of the media since its development in 1980. Dr. Patricia A. Keener, a pediatrician, developed the program after a nurse’s 18 month old daughter choked to death while under the care of an adult sitter. In reflecting on her colleague's loss, Dr. Keener recognized the vulnerability of young children when cared for by unprepared child care providers. Dr. Keener has made numerous appearances on shows such as The Today Show, Good Morning America, CBS This Morning, and the John Walsh Show.
