EDUCATION: PhD in Adult and Continuing Education from University of North Texas in 1993; MRE from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1977; and BSEE from Bradley University in 1970. Also received American Society for Training and Development Certification in 2000 from Oklahoma University.
FAMILY: My wife and I were married in August of 1968 and have two grown sons. Jim Jr. lives in Texas with our five year old grandson. He has not settled on a career field yet, but works with the adult division of MHMR in the north Texas region. Mark is six years younger than Jim, Jr. He is married to Tara who is expecting their first child in May of 2004. They live in Tulsa, OK. Mark is a CPA working for Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group as an auditor.
OCCUPATION: For the first four years of my adult vocational life, I worked for McDonnell Douglas Astronautics as a Communication Engineer on the Skylab Space Station. After that I worked as a Project Engineer for a company that built computerized control systems. I have been in full time church work for 26 years primarily as a Minister of Education. For the past 10 years my responsibilities included the business administration of the church. I joined the staff of Aversboro Road Baptist Church in September of 2003.
INVOLVEMENT: I have served in churches in Washington, Oklahoma, Texas, and now North Carolina. I have led general education and adult education leadership conferences, workshops and seminars for association, state conventions and LifeWay Christian Resources.
HOBBIES: I love the outdoors – both summer and winter. Snow skiing is my current most favorite activity. I also enjoy hiking, camping and long distance bicycle riding. A good action or drama movie always catches my attention as well.
